Chapter Fifteen

Walker went dead still as his brain struggled to process that, convinced he’d heard her wrong. Or at least misunderstood.

Prayed he had.

“Say again?” he said in a low voice, dread coiling in the pit of his stomach. He’d never wanted to be more wrong about anything in his life.

Ivy stayed silent and rigid against him, confirming his fears.

He pulled away from her enough to come up on one elbow and look down at her, the faint light coming from down the hallway showing her face. The stricken, guilt-ridden look on it made his guts clench. She’d blown his op? “It was you?” How?

“I…yes,” she admitted miserably.

He jerked away from her as if she’d burned him and sat up fast, staring at her. “Explain.” His voice was low. Hard.

She pushed out a breath and sat up too, tugged the sheets up to cover her breasts and ran a hand through her tousled hair. “I had infiltrated Tarasov’s inner circle to find out what his boss was up to. He was Yuri Stanislav’s 2IC, and Stanislav’s lover was one of the Valkyries who approached me initially about the hacking job I told you about.”

Stanislav was a straight-up killer. His second-in-command would have been no different. He didn’t want to think about Ivy getting tangled up with a man like Tarasov, no matter how skilled and deadly she was. Everything about this was horrifying. “And?”

Found out later it was because they’d planned to steal it from him. I turned them down because I sensed something was off, but stayed on the periphery with Tarasov to monitor the situation and pass bits of intel to Kiyomi. I didn’t realize they had already brought Amber in to take my place.”

“Who was the arms dealer?” he said in a flat voice. Though he was pretty sure he already knew.

She was quiet a moment before answering. “Viktor Nikolaev.”

Fuck.

He looked away from her, raked a hand through his hair. He’d spent the better part of five months putting everything in place to get an asset close to Nikolaev. He’d chosen Grey personally. And he had a sick feeling he already knew where the rest of this was going. “How did you find out about Grey?”

To her credit, she was calm as she answered. “I came across his name during my initial investigation, and then kept tabs on him off and on after that, just in case.”

He swung around to stare at her. “You hacked my intel?”

“Yes,” she said quietly, holding his gaze.

Jesus Christ. He hadn’t known. Neither had anyone else on the team. Not a fucking clue that Ivy had been monitoring any of it. “And then?”

“And then, I knew Stanislav was getting ready to make his move on Nikolaev. I found out about the meeting you’d set up between him and Grey. I had to
